Watering Seedlings

Lack of water is the number one reason newly planted trees do not survive. Immediately after planting—and once a week for the first two growing seasons—ensure enough water is provided to completely saturate all of the soil within the hole the tree was planted in.

Flatwood Natives provides a ½-inch PVC stake in the “tree planting kit” that supports the tree protector, but it can also be used as a slow release water source.

When watering the tree, also fill the PVC stake with water and this will provide slow release water to the heart of the root ball. Proper watering promotes healthy root growth, and happier trees for hunting success.
